The Return of The Happy Maladies

If you were to look deep into my heart, you'd most definitely find The Happy Maladies closest to the core (or the part that makes all the blood pump). And I'm quite excited to begin playing shows again with this super group of friends and excellent musicians! We have spent the last three months working hard on a new set of music, concepts, and songs and will be re-entering the Cincy music scene this Saturday, May 5th at Rohs Street Cafe! The cafe is celebrating it's 9th Anniversary, and we couldn't be more honored to be one of many fantastic acts to perform throughout the weekend. (Can't make this Saturday's performance? Take a look at our new website to see our upcoming shows and more info!)

    Weekly Gig Update

Even though I've really gotten settled into my regular Tuesday night gig at Ferrari's Little Italy, a new opportunity has appeared and it's time to switch things up a bit. Beginning immediately, I will be performing every Tuesday at 1215 Wine Bar & Coffee Lab from 7-10pm. I have been looking for a regular spot to perform in OTR and 1215 is a really lovely (and tasty!) restaurant in the new "Gateway Quarter" of Vine Street (see photo for proof :) And the best part? I'm playing this gig with my good friend and amazing bassist, Peter Gemus!

So what about Ferrari's? Have no fear... the kind folks in Madeira have allowed me to switch to Wednesday nights at the usual time of 6:30-8:30pm. And since the weather has been approaching a nice level of comfort, I'll begin playing out on the patio this week. Hope to see you on a Tuesday or Wednesday night soon!

    Tour de Force

After four consecutive days of shows, this tour was a true success for Young Heirlooms and Dylan Charles! We had some great shows in Columbus, Indianapolis, Ann Arbor, and our lovely home base, Cincinnati. I've included a classy picture of the crew just before we drove back to Cincy :)

I'm quite excited to be heading into the studio in the coming weeks with Young Heirlooms to lay down banjo tracks on several tunes. We'll be recording straight to analog tape to capture that good ol' warm sound from the days of yore. I'll keep you posted on the CD release date!

    New Photos with Daniel Smyth

photo by Daniel SmythMy need for a few "professional" photos finally reached a point last week, so I called upon the talented services of local Cincinnatian, Daniel Smyth. In addition to being a kindhearted friend, Daniel knows how to work a camera. We went to his studio for the majority of the shoot and used all natural light to create some cool photos. So if you're ever in need of a photographer for any occasion, be sure to check out Daniel first!

On a more music related note, the Jazz Trio will be performing this Friday at the Iron Horse Restaurant. In my opinion, it is hard to find a better place that combines a creative menu, friendly staff, and fantastic listening room for the music. You can expect to hear some new arrangements of your favorite jazz standards and the necessary instrumental cover of "Heard It Through the Grapevine". Be sure to call ahead and make a reservation, and hopefully I'll see you Friday!
